What to Expect

The Industrial Energy team designs the eyes, ears, and brains of Tesla’s Energy Storage (Megapack) and Supercharging products. The type of boards designed control the central processing, communications, thermal systems, high voltage safety, and system level components including breakers, contactors, and pyrofuses. The Supercharger and Megapack teams are advancing our designs and need support to help shape the future of vehicle charging and renewable energy integration.

The Industrial Energy team is looking for a skilled and motivated individual to design and develop electronics for use in our Supercharger and Megapack high-power energy storage systems. This individual will collaborate with a cross-functional team of engineers to deliver best-in-class electrical architectures and products.

What You’ll Do
  • Development of digital and analog electronics for control of high-power electrical systems.
  • Start to finish ownership of control boards and other electronics – from specification to design, prototype, and manufacturing support.
  • Collaborate on controller architectural decisions to drive robust system design.
  • Product level electrical design including component selection, branch circuit design, and insulation coordination.
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate circuit performance.
  • Lead design reviews and DFMEAs.
What You’ll Bring
  • BS or higher degree in Electrical Engineering OR equivalent experience
  • 3+ years relevant work experience.
  • Experience in selection and use of DSPs, microcontrollers, and FPGAs with their peripheral circuitry.
  • Experience designing digital communication buses (CAN, Automotive/Industrial Ethernet, RS-485, USB, SPI, I2C, etc.).
  • Experience designing board level power supplies (buck, boost, flyback, etc.).
  • Experience with Altium or other schematic entry and PCB layout software.
  • Experience in PCB layout, stack-up definition, thermal and EMC optimization.
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, and testing PCBs.
  • Ability to tackle problems and reason using a first principles approach.
